A group cheers at one of the Big Island's breweries

If you’re craving a craft beer while visiting the paradise that is the Big Island of Hawaii, you’re in luck. Not only is the Island rich in natural beauty but also in craft brews. So, after you’re out and about enjoying all of the area’s exciting activities, like ATV rides and zipline adventures, quench your thirst at a Big Island brewery.

If you’re not sure where to get started, the team at Mauna Kea Beach Hotel is happy to point you in the right direction. Here’s our guide on the best breweries on the Big Island.

Big Island Brewhaus

Big Island Brewhaus is the closest brewery to Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, and it’s a winner, literally. When you visit Big Island Brewhaus, you’ll be sampling some of the best craft beers on the island. Their tap list is stacked with award-winning brews, such as the Baltic Porter, a dense beverage with rum, raisin, and coffee notes. In addition to their brews, they also serve up tasty margaritas and food that pairs perfectly with their beers.

Kona Brewing Co.

The Big Island’s most famous brewery by a significant margin is Kona Brewing Co. Though their beers are now common on the mainland, it’s worth stopping into their original brewery in Historic Kailua Village, about 45 minutes south from Mauna Kea Beach Hotel. You’ll find a wide selection of brews on tap, each with its own unique style and charm. You can enjoy your beverage outside; Kona Brewing Co. has a spacious outdoor lanai that’s the perfect place to sip, dine and relax.

Ola Brew Co.

After hitting Kona Brew Co., take a short three-minute drive or a 13-minute walk to Ola Brew Co. This brewery actually has two locations on the Big Island, one in Kailua-Kona and the other in Hilo. Their rotating taps ensure you’ll always find something new to drink. One of the unique things about Ola Brew Co. is that they’re serving more than just beer; they make their own seltzers and hard tea, making this an ideal spot even for those not head over heels for craft beer.

Paradise Brewing Company

Another Big Island brewery located in Historic Kailua Village, Paradise Brewing Company is a waterfront restaurant and brewery that’s well worth a visit. Here, you’ll enjoy 20 craft beers on tap, craft cocktails, delicious food including their famous Kailua pulled pork, and spectacular views of Kailua Bay. Paradise Brewing Company is the rare brewery open for breakfast, helping to differentiate it from other breweries on the Big Island.
